Sometimes referred to as Model 1843 Navy pistols. This one features the full "DERINGER/ PHILADELPHIA" marking on both the barrel and lock. "RP" inspected at breech. "US" on lock. This very rare variation has a seven groove rifled barrel. It is believed that less than 200 of these were made, and has the distinction of being the first handgun manufactured for the US Government with a rifled barrel. CONDITION: Barrel retains 75% brown with some areas of rust and minor pitting. Lock has slight traces of case colors, again with light rust and pitting. Brass is a nice mellow uncleaned color. Wood is sharp with minor handling marks and a crack in the left side at the lock screw from screw being over-tightened at some point. Rifled bore is sharp with some rust and light pitting. Fine mechanical function. A very rare and desirable gun in lovely untouched original condition. GR
