Simeon North dueling pistols are extremely rare. This professionally refinished example displays the high quality work that Simeon North was capable of doing. The smoothbore octagonal barrel has a patent hooked breech decorated with two gold bands and a gold inlay with raised lettering "S. NORTH / CONN. / MIDDLETOWN". The top flat is inscribed "Connecticut" slightly in front of the breech. There is a front sight dovetailed on the top flat, near the muzzle and a rear sight mounted on the decorated tang. The flat lockplate is decorated with a bird and other foliate motifs at the tail, center marked "S. NORTH / Middletown, CON." Lock has acanthus leaf borders and a sliding half-cock safety. Silver barrel key escutcheons and a horn nosecap. Fire blued trigger guard with pineapple finial and engraving on bow. Small silver oval-shaped wrist escutcheon. Stock of figured walnut with checkering on grip. Complete with horn tipped ebony ramrod. Complete with a tiger maple display stand for two pistols. CONDITION: Very good as professionally refinished, recheckered, and reconverted. Excellent and proper professional reconversion. Trigger guard and ramrod ferrule reblued and show some pitting beneath. Barrel browned and shows some light pitting. Stock very good with one minor chip at front lock tang. Horn ramrod tip cracked. Bore has been resurfaced. A very attractive pistol. DMG
