This splendid pistol with rifled brass octagonal barrel fully signed on top flat "P & D Moll, Hellerstown". Peter and David Moll formed their partnership in 1835 in Hellerstown, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. The heavy octagonal barrel has elegant inset front sight, steel barrel tang, signed and bolted flintlock marked London warranted with elegant engraved swan neck cock and roller bearing frizzen. Simple but elegant brass mounts, comprising two ramrod pipes, well formed trigger guard, abbreviated brass buttcap, period signed J.B. (possibly the owner), engraved silver escutcheon with elaborate J(?). Maple full stock with pronounced faux-striping. CONDITION: Barrel is excellent, with little or no wear and a mellow patina. Eight groove rifling. Engraved at muzzle. Brass mounts showing little or no wear throughout. Lock appears to retain considerable original polish and is in its original flintlock configuration. All small parts original, stock in remarkable condition, appears to retain nearly all of its original Lehigh County, Pennsylvania violin finish. One of the most attractive Kentucky style pistols offered in recent years by one of Pennsylvania's well-known flintlock period gunmakers. MZ
