A classic early flintlock Kentucky pistol of characteristic Henry form with octagonal barrel and simple but elegant lock. Struck "J.J. Henry Boulton". John Joseph Henry worked from 1786 until his death in 1836. In 1822 he worked with his brother William in the Boulton works. This pistol likely predates that period. Relatively plain lock with swan neck cock, firing pan, well-shaped frizzen spring, and barrel with brass foresight. Simple but elegant brass side plate with two side nails. Brass Kentucky style furniture comprising forend cap, plain trigger guard, and large brass buttcap. Maple full stock with considerable and beautiful figure. CONDITION: Barrel bright steel with slight patination, heavier at touch hole. Lock is clean, slightly patinated. Hammer and small parts appear to be original to the pistol. Brass parts with aged patina. Walnut full stock appears to have considerable original varnish finish. Action works perfectly. Smooth bore is very good. The form on this pistol can only be regarded as near perfect for an American flintlock pistol of this period. An elegant specimen that will please the most discerning collector. MZ
