Octagonal barrel with large, engraved silver plaque, signed in script "PY" for Peter Young and engraved with borders. One gold band and one silver band are at the muzzle; the gold band probably applied later. The rear sight is almost exactly in the middle between the muzzle and the breech. Lockplate is engraved with designs at the tail and stamped "W. JACOB / WARRANTED" in the center, features a roller frizzen. The brass furniture includes a four piece patchbox with a pineapple finial and engraved borders. There is an engraved brass wearplate terminating in pineapples on each side, as well as a plain, full brass sideplate engraved with simple borders. The left side of the butt has a unique, folky silver inlay above the cheekpiece and engraved with shading and a flower or star in the center. Below the cheekpiece there is a brass tube with an iron touch hole pick. Complete with brass tipped wooden ramrod. CONDITION: The rifle was most likely shortened significantly at both ends during the period of use. Barrel retains a heavy brown patina with corrosion at the breech. Lock has been reconverted to flintlock configuration. The brass retains a nice, mustard patina. Stock retains much original finish below an added coat of finish, with scattered scratches, losses to finish, and marks from use. The rear tang on the silver signature plaque on the barrel has been replaced. DMG
