Marked on the top barrel flat "PHILA J. HENRY" in stamped block letters, this gun exhibits all the characteristics of this contract along with a few that didn't conform to this contract. Makers often deviated from specs. Gun has octagon to round barrel with correct 54" overall length. Barrel is smoothbore and .62 caliber which does not conform with contract specifications. Barrel does not have "US" touch marks. Full plain maple stock with brass hardware including a two piece patchbox and skeleton trigger guard. Germanic style flintlock with Lancaster style brass sideplate controlled by single trigger. Barrel has no provision for bayonet. CONDITION: Metal parts exhibit aged patina with brass having been cleaned years ago and has faded to a golden patina. Barrel has some markings near breech which look to be vise marks. Wood exhibits handling and usage marks with no visible restoration. Mechanics are good. DLM
