Rifle attributed to Adam Angstadt of Kutztown, Pennsylvania circa 1815. Rifle has octagon smoothbore barrel with rifle sights. Rifle has brass hardware with Angstadt style toeplate and engraved four piece patchbox. Full curly maple stock with back to back "C" scroll incised carving behind and in front of the cheekpiece. Shield pattern incised carving around tang and molding line along forestock. Unmarked commercial flint lock with Angstadt style brass sideplate and controlled by double set triggers. Consignor provides packet comparing this rifle with other signed examples of Adam Angstadt's work. CONDITION: Metal parts have aged patina with some peppery pitting near breech. Brass parts have golden yellow patina. Wood retains what looks to be an old finish with a crack on patchbox side of buttstock that doesn't appear to protrude to the other side. Small hairline crack from trigger guard to entry pipe. Several stress cracks along forestock with large chip missing near nose cap. Lock is a replacement and gun has been reconverted to flint with some wood missing around lock from percussion ignition. DLM2019
