Gilded metal components and black cloth-covered pressed-cork body, deluxe eagle plate with applique crossed sabers surmounted with a shield affixed to the front of the helmet, a large silvered "2" is attached to the center of shield, cavalry side buttons, brass chin chain, yellow yak hair plume. Helmet is complete with gilt knotted cords, tassels and waffles. All components are as prescribed for the Model 1881 dress helmet. Brown leather sweatband, red silk lining embossed in gold "The M.C. Lilley & Co", green cloth visor linings. In the 1880's the 2nd U.S. Cavalry served in Wyoming and fought at the battle of O'Fallon's Creek, Montana. CONDITION: Excellent showing minor wear.
