(1993) It appears that Champlin Arms, well known as double rifle specialists, teamed up with FAMARS (Fabbrica Armi Mario Abbiatico Remo Salvinelli) to make a well thought out and serviceable dangerous game double rifle. This well crafted double rifle has 24" chopper lump barrels fitted with file cut quarter rib holding one standing, one folding leaf express rear sight. A gold bead front is in matching ramp. Side of left barrel is marked "CHAMPLIN - FAMARS" in scroll and strapwork engraved surround. Barrel flats and bottoms of barrels are engraved with 1993 Italian nitro proofs. Barrels are stamped with caliber and "CHAMPLIN". Bottom of right barrel is engraved "REGULATED AT 50 YDS WITH FEDERAL AMMO SELFT (sic) POINT .500 GR". Case hardened robust boxlock action with extended top tang over comb features non-automatic safety, hidden third fastener, bushed strikers, and double triggers (front articulated). Action is engraved with geometric and line borders and some splashes of scroll around some screws. Sides of action are engraved "CHAMPLIN - FAMARS" on gold inlaid rectangle within scroll and strapwork borders. Trigger plate is engraved "AFRICA EXPRESS" "CAL. 470 NE" within well rendered device. Single beaded blued trigger guard has serial number on tang which extends to blued steel grip cap with trap. Lightly marbled and figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-7/8" over brown Decelerator pad, and features right hand shadow line cheekpiece along with borderless point pattern checkering at grip and a gold oval engraved "CC" on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend has forward pivoting lever release. Gun is housed in brown leather case with stitched leather corners by Nizzoli. Interior is lined in olive green cloth and has black leather A & S label stitched into lid. Weight: 11 lbs. 1 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, near new, but showing the knocks and bumps from perhaps one safari, with some light scratches and marks in metal surfaces, and some compressions and scratches in wood, most notably a 2" fairly heavy abrasion along toe line. Checkering remains light in color. Bores are excellent. Mechanically excellent. Case has a few marks in leather. Interior has compressions and rubs. A well balanced heavy double. MGM8.
