(ca 1914) 28" Chopper lump barrels with square shouldered dolls head rib extension, have one standing, two folding leaf express rear sight dovetailed through file cut quarter rib, and silver bead front sight in matching ramp. Top of right barrel is engraved "CHARLES LANCASTER". Barrel flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for 60 grains cordite and 400 grain bullet. Caliber is also marked and "GRADE C" is engraved. Case hardened boxlock action features pivoting third fastener, bolted non-automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, and double triggers. Action is engraved with 70% coverage well cut shaded scroll. "C. Lancaster" is on each side. Blued top lever, floorplate, and trigger guard are also scroll engraved. Serial number is on trigger guard tang which extends to case hardened and engraved steel grip cap. Well marbled and lightly figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-5/8" over Silver type pad. Stock features right hand shadow line cheekpiece along with classic drop points, point pattern checkering, sling eye and vacant silver oval. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. Weight: 11 lbs 4 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, as completely refurbished, most likely in London. Barrels retain nearly all of a "best" satiny reblack with a few very light marks. Action retains approximately 90% case hardening color, silvered from hand wear on edges and around bottom. Engraving re-cut. Blued parts retain over 90% of their renewed correct blue, and stocks retain nearly all of a hand rubbed oil refinish over some nicks and oil darkened spots. A 1" x 3/4" piece has been refitted to comb. Checkering re-cut. Bores are excellent with sharp rifling throughout. Perhaps a bit soft at throat of right barrel. Action is tight. Barrels are on face.
