Lot consists of (A) Burgonet weighing 3 pounds 10 ounces, one piece construction. Shows excellent forging throughout and of good form. Comb with two flutes rising to a roped rim, etched with knights on horseback. Skull portion etched with figures of warrior and queen. Etching on the helmet of later date. Plume holder for two plumes. Front of helmet with raised rim. CONDITION: Showing great age with comb being holed and greatly worn. Exfoliation visible throughout. Some lining rivets remaining. Both earflaps and all neck lames absent. (B) Element of armor of three lames etched with foliage and featuring brass rivets and roped border showing great age. Possibly from a pauldron, likely Pisan work circa 1580. CONDITION: Showing great age with clean and well delineated etching. Although the etching on the burgonet is of later date, it is nonetheless a strikingly attractive and well wrought helmet made for battle rather than parade.
