In 1863, Kynoch took over the firm of Pursall and Phillips, which was subsequently renamed G. Kynoch and Co., keeping business in Birmingham, England. In 1895 Kynoch built an explosives factory east of Shell Haven Creek, Essex (now known as Coryton). This opened in 1897, with an estate for employees called Kynochtown. Products included cordite, gun cotton, gunpowder, and cartridges. In 1926, once Nobel Industries, including Kynoch Ltd, had merged to form ICI, the original Kynoch factory in Witton became the head office and principal manufacturing base of the "ICI Metals Division". Kynoch, along with names such as Eley, became brands of subsidiaries. This information helps date this board. This board features 60 shot-shells, five of which are brass with balance of hulls made of cardboard. 24 are cut-away shells and 12 are empty hulls, never crimped. There are 18 full rifles cartridges and ten handgun cartridges. The center display is a 9" x 14" full color poster of a hawk and its victim that is held in place with solid brass corners and brads. The liner is a faded green. The wooden frame has the company name and city stenciled in gold. The shells are clean and when examining the back, it appears that all have their original wire ties. The entire piece measures 24" in width and 29-1/2" tall. A great early store display piece. DB
