The slender 29 - 1/4" barrels with brown damascus finish and signed in gold "Fusil Robert Bte A Paris" with silver inlaid border. The action, finely engraved with sprays of foliage and elaborate Roberts gold medal exposition 1834 for which Roberts was a prize winner. The system is most interesting and has been used on military rifles as well. The breech opens for loading and cocks at the same time, snapping shut. The heavy trigger guard conceals part of the action and is engraved en suite with the breech. Steel buttplate engraved en suite with the breech. Barrel has a sling ring. Figured half stock appears to be maple, well carved, with flowers at forend and checkered at wrist. Double triggers. CONDITION: Barrels are excellent, retaining nearly all of a well done brown refinish with some extremely minor pitting under the finish. Action is polished bright. Trigger guard polished bright with some minor staining. Buttplate polished bright with some minor staining. Stock with coat of recent varnish. Flattened checkering in good condition. Buttplate with fracture at top of cheekrest. Action appears to function properly. Bores are bright and excellent. Robert system guns are highly prized by collectors of 19th century oddities and this is a good example. MZ
