Formerly owned by Remington factory exhibition shooter William (Billy) Hill. Employed by Remington from 1907-1946. Mr. Hill was born in 1881 and passed away in 1957. His obituary appeared in the Portland Press Herald on January 1st, 1958 with an article titled "Man Who Outshot Annie Oakley Dies", the article describes a shooting contest were he broke 99 out of 100 targets using a .22 caliber rifle and Annie Oakley broke 88. Accompanying the rifle is notarized documentation of Mr. Hills previous ownership and history of his employment with Remington. This factory engraved No. 2 was special ordered with deluxe grade oil finished stock and forearm with engraved casehardened tip. No checkering. Casehardened frame and buttplate with well executed scroll engraving. 30" medium weight octagon barrel with a scroll engraved panel around the front sight and barrel address. Scroll engraving around rear sight and barrel breech. Chambered in .38 Extra Long Rimfire caliber. All screw heads are engraved. Hammer and rolling block also exhibit scroll engraving. Beech combination front sight and combination elevator rear peep sight. Barrel marked with a two line Remington address and patent dates. CONDITION: Excellent overall with 90%+ original blue turning a blue/brown patina on barrel. Bore is excellent. Frame and buttplate show traces of original case color turning a gun metal grey-brown patina. Front sight is broken and could be easily replaced. Wood is excellent+ showing little wear and most all the factory oil finish. Overall a very attractive and rare factory engraved rifle with interesting history. -MKS-
