Deeply browned 8 - 3/4" octagonal barrels with silver foresights are signed in full on top flat "CJ SMITH 61 KING WILLIAM STREET LONDON". Breeches with silver line and scroll engraving. Back action locks en suite with breeches, dolphin form hammers with scroll engraving. Trigger guards with pineapple finials and scroll engraving en suite with locks. Figured walnut half stocks with horn forend tips and flat English style checkering at wrist. The deeply rifled barrels with seven lands and grooves. Set triggers. CONDITION: Barrels retain nearly all of a period English brown, showing some Damascus pattern throughout. Locks are crisp with little or no pitting. Nozzle of hammer on both pistols fractured with a large piece missing. Engraved trigger guards retain considerable original bright peacock blue with some patination. Set triggers operate correctly and retain some original nitre blue. Stocks with minor marks throughout. Checkering is flattened as intended. Actions on both pistols are crisp and function properly. Brass tipped rammers lack worm but possibly original. English mahogany case with split ring in lid appears original to the pistols, good condition throughout except wine red velvet lining somewhat faded. Accessories comprise of cap tin, bullet mold, oil bottle, and cleaning rod with worm. Unusual to find deeply rifled English percussion dueling pistols with set triggers. An attractive set by a well-known maker. MZ
