Not much is known about the 'why' of the B-5 scope. It was available from 1909-1917 while the A-5 Model was made from 1909-28. Both were 5x power made on the 3/4" tube. When compared, the B-5 is 1/2" shorter at 15-1/2". Given that they are the same power, size and almost the same length, it makes one wonder what they were thinking offering two different model scopes that were almost the same. Both were used during the First World War on Springfield 1903 sniper rifles and both were popular sporting scopes at the time as well, often seen on offset mounts on old lever guns. Scope comes with the so called Grasshopper rear mount and standard front. CONDITION: There is some age freckling but still a good, solid 95% original blue finish. Optics are sharp and clear with standard crosshairs. Classic rifles need period scopes. Nothing looks worse on a classic gun that sports a scope made half a century later. DB
