Introduced by Winchester in 1909 and continued production until 1928, this fine scope made a name for itself in the trenches of France during World War I with snipers. It was durable and offered great optics, tested under battle conditions, proved reliable enough for sportsman as well. In 1929 Winchester as well as Stevens sold their entire line of scopes to Lyman. The A-5 Winchester scope continued on in the Lyman line as the Model 5-A until 1934. This is a fine example in the never seen original Winchester box with proper end label. It is a 5 power scope measured 16" and has a 3/4" tube. It was factory finished in commercial blue. The original mounts are present including the rare early No. 1 mount patented in 1910 by William Bennett and not the more common so called "Grasshopper" mount. Front mount is standard used throughout production and stamped Winchester. CONDITION: The original rubber eye cup is also present but rather dry. Clear optics with standard crosshairs. Blue finish remains near new, 99% overall, with just some light handling marks. This is the only example we have ever seen contained in the original box and the first example we have had with the rare No. 1 rear mount. The box label has No. 2 mounts pre-printed but this is definitely the No. 1. DB
