Early circa 1906 ejector game gun with two sets of 12 bore 30" barrels. An older set of chopper lump barrels have broad flat file cut rib and are engraved “Charles Boswell. Maker. 126. Strand. London." "WC” on top of left barrel and “Made of Sir Joseph Whitworth’s Fluid Compressed Steel” on the right. Barrel flats show original London and Birmingham re-proof for 2 - 3/4" chambers. Bottom of barrels have provisional London proofs and Whitworth sheaf of wheat trademark logos and serial number. Loop is stamped “Griffin & Howe NY”. The second set of barrels have a narrower more coarse file cut rib with the same markings on top and are dovetailed. Barrel flats have Birmingham nitro proofs. Loop is stamped “Griffin & Howe NY.” (as importer). Water table has London and Birmingham proofs and is stamped “C. Boswell” with serial number. Action features hidden third fastener, side clips, automatic safety, articulated front trigger, and arrow engraved tumbler as cocking indicators. Action is coin finished and engraved with beautifully executed bouquet and scroll. Bottom of action has a scene of three game birds. Fences are beautifully relief engraved with flowing leaves, and shaded scroll. “Safe” is inlaid in gold on top tang. Lock plates have matching scroll engraving and “Charles Boswell” in ribbons on each side. Left lock depicts a pair of setters hunting; right a group of six pheasants in meadow. Trigger guard shows a pair of dogs, one sleeping with scroll and serial number on grip. The stock is nicely marbled and figured dark European walnut with a round knob semi pistol grip. Buttstock has a leather covered pad with a 3/4" ebonite extension and features gold oval with the initials “RD”. In addition the stock has drop points as well as 20 lines per inch checkering. Gun is stocked to the fences. Anson release splinter forend has engraving, wood, and checkering to match buttstock. Newer green canvas case fits gun and both sets of barrels. CONDITION: Very good. Both sets of barrels retain 90 plus percent blue with the older barrels most likely being re-blued. Stock is good condition with some handling marks and small stress fractures behind the right lock plate. Splinter forend is good with a few light handling marks. This gun would make out to be a good pigeon gun. CP
