(1961) Guns are denoted by gold inlaid letter "A" and "B" on breech end of ribs, top levers, and forend tips. All barrel sets are 28" and of demi-bloc construction with matted, ventilated ribs. Left sides of top barrels are engraved with Purdey's famous Audley House address along with "England". London nitro proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers are on right sides of top barrels and flats of bottom barrels. Choke percentages are engraved on sides of bottom flats with gun "A" having one set choked 50% and 65% (IC and Mod), with the other marked 65% and 65% (Mod and Mod). Gun "B" has one set marked 50% and 65% (IC and Mod), with the other 75% and 75% (Extra full and Extra full). Serial numbers are on bottoms of bottom barrels, along with barrel makers initials "E.C" (Ted Comben). Case hardened sidelock over/under low profile (Woodward type) actions feature automatic safeties (SAFE inlaid in gold), raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and double triggers. Actions are engraved with very nicely cut classic Purdey House style rose and scroll. "J. Purdey & Sons" is in parchment scroll flanked device on each lockplate, and above forend iron recesses on bottoms of actions with "London. England" under recesses. Serial numbers are on scroll engraved trigger guard tangs. Well matched finely flame figured and very nicely marbled European walnut straight grip buttstocks measure 14 - 7/8" over leather faced foam pads. Stocks feature classic drop points, point pattern checkering at grips, and vacant gold ovals on toe lines. Matching slim ejector forends have Anson releases. CONDITION: Very fine to excellent, as partially refurbished. Barrels retain nearly all of what appears to be original blue with some light scratches and marks. Actions retain 70-80% original muted color, silvered on beads and high edges, thinning on bottoms. Lockplates retain over 90% of their color. Trigger guards re-blued, and retain nearly all of that blue. What are most likely newer stocks are well inletted and correctly stylized, and retain nearly all of their original hand rubbed oil finish with some light marks. Checkering is still light in color. Original forend wood nicely refinished, checkering re-cut. Actions are tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are in time on gun "A", but are slightly out of time on gun "B". All bores are excellent. Guns come with an aluminum carrying case with black Cordura cover. Interior is lined in burgundy velvet and has two compartments, one for each gun and its extra barrel separated by a flap. MGM11.
