This nicely framed lot features a clipped signature of Steven A. Douglas (1813 - 1861), a senator of Illinois and designed of the Kansas - Nebraska Act. He is famously known for losing against Abraham Lincoln in the 1860 Presidential election - though he had previously defeated Lincoln in a run for the Senate - and is best known for the Lincoln - Douglas Debates, in which he was nicknamed "Little Giant". The signature nicely framed below a print of the senator. The signature reads "S. A. DOUGLAS / CHICAGO ILLS.". Both engraving and signature mounted beneath a brown velvet mat housed in a faux-gilt molded frame. This item was mentioned in the book "Presidential and Campaign Memorabilia" by Stan Gores.
