(Ca. 1989) A lively and balanced matched pair of 20 bore Holland & Holland Royal Deluxe side by side shotguns. Chopper lump barrels both measure 28" and are engraved "Modele Deluxe" on swamped narrow game ribs. Makers name and 33 Bruton Street address are engraved on tops. Rear portions of ribs, top levers, and forend tips are gold inlaid "1" or "2" denoting a true pair. Barrel flats are stamped with 1988 London proofs for 3" chambers. H&H type self opening assist springs are installed. Small size case hardened "Royal" sidelock actions feature automatic safeties (SAFE inlaid in gold), hand detachable locks, gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and single non-selective triggers with rare right barrel by-pass feature. Actions are engraved in recent "Deluxe" style with near full coverage well cut large shaded acanthus and scroll. "Holland & Holland" is in scrolled band on each lockplate. "Modele' "De" "Luxe" is on bottom of actions. Single beaded small bow trigger guards engraved with more acanthus scroll have serial numbers in gold on long tangs. Finely matched nicely marbled and nicely figured flesh tones European walnut straight grip buttstocks measure 14" over checkered wood butts. Gold ovals engraved "HRA" are on toe lines. Stocks also feature drop points, and point pattern checkering on diamond hands. Matching splinter ejector forends have Anson releases. Guns are housed in dark russet leather two-gun motor case with leather trimmed canvas outer cover. Interior is lined in scarlet cloth, and contains some cleaning equipment (cleaning rod and brushes). CONDITION: Excellent, with evidence of very limited field use, with only a few very minor marks in all wood and metal finishes. A hint of silvering is on beads and fences, heaviest of gun "2". Case is excellent. Interior is excellent. A fine pair of London best small bore guns. MGM15.
