Following the end of World War I, they made the decision to manufacture tools as well as firearms and ammunition. Partly this was done to better utilize their plants and equipment which had been beefed up to meet the demands for steel-related war goods. However they did not have much success in distributing these tools and hardware goods on a national scale. Distributed under "The Winchester Store", they launched a nationwide marketing campaign. Around 1919, the company expanded into other areas of manufacture and product distribution, even going so far as to come close to having "retail" stores, putting the famous Winchester brand on nearly everything from tools, sporting goods to housewares and hardware items, with its slogan being ...."As Good As The Gun". By 1931, Winchester was in bankruptcy and no longer producing tools. Subsequent mergers and partnerships changed the name and look of the Winchester logo. It was Winchester-Western for a while, starting in 1931. This was the end of the Winchester Store. This panel is double sided and one panel of the five total. Each of the panels measures 40" tall and 19" wide and made of light, very fragile cardboard. The first five panel display was sent to the Winchester store in March of 1920. Each of the five panels would sit in a wooden five panel frame that was hinged and could be used to divide departments. The last five panels were used in 1928. This panel features the Winchester Model 1903 semi-automatic rifle. It is dated for display August 31st-September 6th. CONDITION: It is housed in a modern frame and there is a visible small chip at base and some storage scuffs but is extremely clean and bright and would really shine in any gun room, especially if you collect Winchester .22 rifles.
