1927 vintage Colt revolver engraved by factory Master Engraver Wilbur A. Glahn. Execution of the engraving is masterful and flawless with deeply cut scroll and Glahn trademark floral motifs. A near identical example is shown on page 580, Volume II, of R.L. Wilson's "The Colt Engraving Book". The factory carved two piece ivory grips are unusually detailed with a tastefully executed steer head motif with a beautiful mellow patina and Colt medallions. Blue with case color frame and hammer, 5-1/2" barrel chambered in .45 Colt. Accompanied by a Colt factory archival letter confirming finish, configuration, engraving, steer head ivory grips, charged to Loan Account, shipped to Murta Appleton and Company, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania March 24th, 1927 in a shipment of two guns. CONDITION: One has to examine with a critical eye to find the slightest flaw on this remarkable revolver, and in most practical terms would be considered mint by the most discerning collector. Overall a minimum of 98% original blue is present on barrel, ejector rod housing, cylinder trigger guard, and backstrap. Under strong light and magnification only the slightest wear is visible at the muzzle and a very minimum drag line on the cylinder. The frame and hammer retain nearly all the original bright case color. Bore and cylinder chambers are nearly new. This is an exceptional and rare factory engraved Colt that would be most difficult to improve on. -MKS-
