This very unique and near mint black powder revolver, according to Colt archives was originally shipped in 1899 as full nickel, 4-3/4", .41 caliber, with hard rubber grips. As evident of the Factory Rework Marking (ampersand) located on the rear bow of the trigger guard and the work order number 736 located inside the grips on the trigger bow and backstrap, this revolver was returned to the factory, and according to Colt authority R.L. Wilson was engraved with a 5-1/2" barrel installed. The engraving is clearly the work of Colt Master Engraver Wilbur Glahn. The engraving on Single Action Army 187737 is nearly identical to a known Glahn Engraved Colt Single Action Army picture on page 301 of R.L. Wilson's 1974 "Colt Engraving" Book. According to Wilson, only one other known revolver, originally shipped in 1905 was returned to Colt in 1923 and engraved by Glahn. CONDITION: Gun is nearly mint condition with virtually no wear to the factory reapplied nickel finish. Engraving is very sharp. Action is crisp as new. A most interesting rare and desirable revolver engraved by a Colt Factory Master Engraver. -MKS-
