First year production Model 1878 revolver with contemporary engraving. Tastefully engraved in a typical New York style pattern, engraver and year of engraving unknown. 7 - 1/2" barrel chambered in .45 Colt. Colt factory archive letter documents configuration and and original nickel finish. Gun is refinished with silver plating. Letter further documents being shipped to Winchester Repeating Arms Company New Haven, Connecticut on October 3, 1878. Non original two piece ivory grips with scrimshaw at butt. CONDITION: Refinished with silver plating, majority of reapplied finish remaining, fair bore with pitting, action does not work properly.MKS
