Serial number 239894, manufactured in 1903. 4 - 3/4" barrel marked in two lines "COLT'S PT. F.A MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A." and ".38 W.C.F." on left side. Frame marked on left side with patent dates and Rampant Colt motif. Chambered in .38-40 caliber. Fitted with unusual two piece mother of pearl carved steerhead grips with ruby eyes, both left and right panels are carved with the steerhead motif. Full nickel plated. Period engraved in the typical New York style, featuring scrolls with a punch dot background. Sunburst design on right recoil shield and top of backstrap. CONDITION: Refinished with nearly all the reapplied nickel plating remaining. Action is crisp. Bore is good with moderate pitting. Right mother of pearl grip panel has a repair at the heel. Overall an attractive revolver in a desirable configuration and scarce caliber. -MKS-
