This early 18th Century flintlock musket features a round three stage barrel with early English view and proof marks near the breech. The top is lightly inscribed "57 / CC" just behind the first set of rings dividing the barrel sections. The early rounded banana lockplate is inscribed "P. BADDELEY" in the center and is decorated with tooled double line borders. The furniture is all of iron. The early full length stock is of plain walnut and appears to have a blackened military finish. There is an elongated relief teardrop carved around the ramrod entry ferrule and relief panels around the lock and sideplate. There is also a relief carved panel terminating in a teardrop around the barrel tang. Complete with replaced wooden ramrod. CONDITION: The barrel, lock, and all iron furniture has been heavily cleaned and retains a bright surface with scattered pitting overall. The frizzen is a replacement. Touch hole has been rebushed using a brass insert. The sling swivel hole on the trigger guard is worn through at the front. The stock shows heavy wear and has several cracks, as well as a break on the forend between the entry ferrule and the second to last ferrule. There are a few pieces replaced at the forend and around some of the pins. The barrel tang screw is a replacement. Markings are light and show wear. Despite its condition, Committee of Correspondence marks muskets are extremely rare and desirable. DMG
