This model is considered among the most beautiful and aesthetically pleasing of American martial pistols. The prestigious American Society of Arms Collectors chose this gun in profile as their logo. These guns were made in pairs between 1806 and 1808 with a total production of about 4,000 guns with each gun of a pair having the same serial number. This gun is the standard pattern with round steel barrel, breech marked with stamped serial number "1365", "US" in an oval, and an eagles head over "P". Lock is marked “HARPERS/FERRY/1807” in vertical arcs behind cock. Under the pan is a spread-winged eagle facing toward the cock over “US”. The plain walnut stock is marked opposite the lock with clear inspector cartouche "V / JS" for inspector James Stubblefield. Right side of pommel stamped "MB". Standard brass Model 1805 furniture. CONDITION: Very good, overall. Steel retains a freckled grey brown patina with some scattered minor pitting. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration, but cock is a period replacement and has matching patina. Touchole slightly enlarged from period use. Markings are excellent and lock retains a spotted grey patina. Stock good with some scattered marks from use, minor crack between bottom of lockplate and triggerguard. Ramrod is a period replacement. Brass retains a dark, unpolished patina. This is a very nice untouched and as found example. DMG
