This model is considered among the most beautiful and aesthetically pleasing of American martial pistols. The prestigious American Society of Arms Collectors chose this gun in profile as their logo. These guns were made in pairs between 1806 and 1808 with a total production of about 4,000 guns with each gun of a pair having the same serial number. This gun is the standard pattern with round steel barrel, breech marked with stamped serial number "1162", "US" in an oval, and an eagles head over "P". Lock is marked “HARPERS/FERRY/1807” in vertical arcs behind cock. Under the pan is a spread-winged eagle facing toward the cock over “US”. The plain walnut stock is marked opposite the lock with clear "V / JS" inspector cartouche for James Stubblefield. Standard brass Model 1805 furniture. Period horn-tipped wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Untouched and "as found" with dark patina overall. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration and has a dark patina. Markings are excellent. Stock shows some scattered marks from use, period crack from left side of breech to trigger floorplate and hairline crack between lock and trigger guard, one chip at lockplate tail. Ramrod is a period replacement. Brass retains a dark, unpolished patina. Brass band loose at top on right side, pommel screw and screw cap are absent. This is a very nice untouched and honest example. DMG
