This is one of only 606 made of the early pinned barrel versions of the Model 1811 pistol. There were only 2,000 Model 1811 pistols of two variations, produced between 1811 and 1813 by Simeon North. This is the earlier of the two types, the second type has a double-strap barrel band. Round steel smoothbore barrel, stamped with "P / US" on left side, near breech. Flat lockplate stamped with large eagle over "U. STATES" in center, tail stamped "S. NORTH/BERLIN/CON." vertically, brass pan and reinforced cock, lock screws all stamped with small "I". There is also a small "P" stamped on the backstrap behind the tang screw. Standard brass furniture similar to that of the Model 1808 Navy pistol, but with "S" shaped sideplate. Brass pommel cap. Full length plain walnut stock stamped with "V/HHP" inspectors stamp for Henry H. Perkin, behind sideplate. Complete with wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel and lock have been lightly cleaned and retain a freckled, light grey patina with some scattered darker spots. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration and shows some wear and minor scattered pitting. The post of the cock has had the top portion replaced as well as the top jaw and jaw screw. One lock retaining screw is a replacement. Wooden ramrod with steel tip is original. Brass retains a dark mustard patina with a few scattered marks. Stock very good with crisp inspector's cartouche and sharp edges, showing only a few light scattered marks. This is a hard to find and early transitional martial pistol. DMG
