EVANS PHILDA". Engraved hammers of dolphin form, blued spurred trigger guards with pineapple finials, set triggers. Finely figured and checkered walnut half stocks with Schnabel at forend. Flattened butts filling beautiful figure. CONDITION: Pistol number one retains most of its original lustrous brown, foresight retains almost all its original bluing, locks retain nearly all their original dark color case hardening, hammers with some darkened base colors, trigger guard beautifully engraved with considerable original bright peacock blue, some raised rust. Set triggers retain original blue with some raised rust, stocks are excellent with beautiful figure to wood and ultra crisp checkering. Action is crisp as new, set trigger functions properly. Bore is excellent. Pistol number two retains much original brown but marred by fairly significant rust pitting on all eight flats. Lock is good with much original darkened case-hardening on plate and hammer, trigger guard has much original bright peacock blue mixing with raised rust, particularly heavy at trigger guard spur. Stock rates excellent with fine figure in wood and ultra crisp checkering and bore is excellent. Exterior of case is good with some minor scratches, interior with green base lining appears to be original. Case retains two cleaning rods, ebony script turnscrew and nickel wrench, rare shotgun butt powder flask with considerable original gilding remaining on spout, much original lacquer and powder on body, spout stamped "DIXON AND SONS". An extremely high quality cased set of dueling/target pistols by one of Philadelphia's most renowned makers in essentially excellent as-found condition throughout. MZ
