The 8 - 5/8" octagonal barrels numbered 1 and 2 with extremely attractive and elaborate Damascus twist pattern and micro-groove rifling. The diminutive back action locks of unusual type, case hardened and engraved with floral designs and border decoration. The hammers of dolphin type, engraved en suite. Spurred trigger guards with pineapple finials engraved en suite with hammers and locks. Ebony buttcap with engraved steel butt trap. Birdseye maple half stocks with shell design at forend. Finely checkered at wrist. Set triggers. CONDITION: Barrel on (A) is excellent, retaining nearly all its elaborate Damascus finish. Barrel on (B) with some staining to Damascus finish. Case hardening on lock of (A) with some vividity but fading. Case hardening on pistol (B) with far more vivid colors. Breech on both pistols with most color hardening. Trigger guards with faded case colors and some brightness in protected areas. The stocks with much original varnish finish. Pistol (A) with tight crack around wedge escutcheon. Pistol (B) with age crack behind nipple. Checkering crisp and well defined. Stock stamped at butt 3524, possibly a museum inventory. Microgroove rifled bores are excellent. Actions are tight as new. Set triggers function as intended. Pistols are cased in their original rosewood veneer case with all original accessories comprising powder dipper, nipple wrench with turn screw, bullet mold, lovely small powder flask stamped BAP, rosewood ramrods, one with jag, rosewood mallet not all dented as they usually are, original oil bottle. Wine red velvet lining fading but original. A handsome and unusual set of high quality Liege target pistols. MZ
