26 - 7/8" chopper lump barrels with slightly raised matted flat game rib are gold inlaid "ABBIATICO & SALVINELLI" on top of left barrel. Gun appears to be no. 2 of a pair with "2" in gold on rear of rib, top lever, and forend tip. Barrel flats are stamped with 1982 Italian nitro proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers. Craftsmen's names are on rear lump including Dante, Mario, Poli, Remo, and Tony. Importer's name and address is on bottom of left barrel. Small frame coin finished sidelock action features non-automatic safety, bushed strikers, and single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved with near full coverage shaded scroll. A Bulino scene of two woodcock flitting through alder branches is on bottom. No engravers signature found. Sidelocks are fully taken up by finely detailed game scenes with delicately shaded backgrounds: A pointer points a pair of ruffed grouse in open woodlands on left lockplate. A covey of quail explode from grass into open meadow with fence line in background, rotten log in foreground on right. Both of these scenes are signed "F. Galeazzi", the justly famous Fausto who has much of his work featured in "Modern Firearms Engravings" by Mario Abbiatico. Single beaded small bow trigger guard with scroll on bow has serial number in gold on tang. Fine flesh-toned well figured and smoky marbled European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15" over dark brown leather covered pad. Well cut borderless point pattern checkering is on diamond hand which continues through facets of drop points behind lockplates. Small semi-beavertail ejector forend with Anson release, has A & S silver crest inlet into uncheckered central diamond. Gun in housed in dark brown leather case with stitched leather corners by Nizzoli. Interior is lined in dark green cloth, and has black leather FAMARS label stitched into lid. CONDITION: Excellent, near new with very little evidence of firing, with only a few very minor marks in all original factory finishes. Bores are excellent. Mechanically excellent. Case is excellent, very near "as new". MGM25.
