Manufactured in 1896 with a 32" Number 4 barrel without provision for rear sight, chambered for .32-40 WCF. Case colored receiver with Schuetzen lever and full Swiss butt with cheek rest. Full double set triggers. The XX Deluxe "H" checkered flame grained crotch walnut stocks are factory piano varnish finished. Mounted on top of the barrel is a 30" Malcolm scope in Malcolm mounts. Rifle was obviously intended for optics use as it was produced with no dove tail in the barrel for the rear sight. CONDITION. Excellent. The barrel has well over 98% bright factory blue finish with crisp legible markings. The case colored receiver is brilliantly bright with only edge wear and losses of protective lacquer over the colors. The Schuetzen lever retains most case colors but they are becoming smoky as the lacquer has worn through. The double set triggers have most of their dark blue remaining and are properly functioning. The Malcolm scope is very good but needs cleaning. The lenses are cloudy but viewable. One tensioning screw is missing at rear of scope. The Swiss butt plate has suffered some finish loss and now retains approximately 60% factory applied blue finish. The Deluxe piano varnished stocks are very fine with typical small dents and scratches but are near exceptional with only high point wear. The bore is bright and shiny with sharp rifling. Accompanied by a Winchester factory letter that indicates the rifle was originally shipped as a .38-55, 32 inch barre with mid-range Vernier sight with palm rest set triggers checkered pistol grip stock schuetzen butt, cheek piece, spur lever and barrel matted on three sides.
