This large Remington Arms Union Metallic Cartridge Corporation Cardboard display piece dates to approximately 1912 based on the four firearms depicted: the Remington Model 11 autoloading shotgun, Model 14 pump action rifle, Model 10 pump action shotgun, and the Model 8 semi-automatic large caliber rifle, the latest of these weapons introduced in 1911. Additionally, Remington and UMC merged officially in 1912. Display piece features three large sepia-tone drawings of the Remington UMC manufacturing plant in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The top vignette features images of cartridges and shotshells on both sides, the center shows a photograph of the place where the first Remington rifle was built in 1816 at the old forge in Ilion, New York. The four firearms are pictured in the center. Has original hand blown wavy glass mounted in a period rough hewn and stained pine frame. This example measures 37 - 3/4" tall by 47 - 1/2" wide. Frame is original to the cardboard display. Original paper backing is removed, display held in by old nails. CONDITION: Post has a few very minor blemishes in top right quadrant, otherwise in excellent to near mint all original condition with no repairs or restoration of any kind. No wrinkling, cracking, or chipping. A wonderful sepia-tone image that is quite rare due to its large and fragile nature. PROVENANCE: From the collection of Nathan Posner, former owner of the San Francisco Gun Exchange and most recently on display at the Buffalo Bill Historical Museum of Cody, Wyoming.
