Offered is a very scarce 1942 dated trench gun with all of the early features. The heat shield is a World War I style six row but no patent date. The change date to a four row was mid-1942. The left side of stock has the WB cartouche with ordnance wheel. Waldemar Broberg inspected 1897 trench guns from July of 1941 through June of 1942 only with most World War II trench guns bearing the GHD stamp. This is correct take down style and this gun falls right into the correct serial number range of 930,000-953,000. The left side of the frame is stamped simply US without the bomb which is only observed on the 1941-42 made guns. The top of barrel has the WP stamp with ordnance bomb. Top of frame stamped with WP. The stock has correct fluted comb with Winchester logo black buttplate and sling swivel. Finnish is commercial style blue. Bottom of barrel has 42 stamp for year made. CONDITION: Fine specimen with 90% original blue on frame, balance blending to soft patina with some light handling marks. The barrel retains the majority of reapplied blue finish while the heat shield retains about 75% blue with balance a gun metal gray. Stocks are excellent with usual handling marks. Mirror bore. Comes with M1917 bayonet and sheath. DB
