This model is considered among the most beautiful and aesthetically pleasing of American martial pistols. The prestigious American Society of Arms Collectors chose this gun in profile as their logo. These guns were made in pairs between 1806 and 1808 with a total production of about 4,000 guns with each gun of a pair having the same serial number. This gun is the standard pattern with round steel barrel, breech marked with stamped serial number "814", "US" in an oval, and an eagles head over "P". Lock is marked “HARPERS/FERRY/1807” in vertical arcs behind cock. Under the pan is a spread-winged eagle facing toward the cock over “US”. The plain walnut stock is marked "JS" on the right side of the pommel. Standard brass Model 1805 furniture. Brass-tipped wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Steel retains a freckled light grey patina with some scattered dark spots, has been cleaned at some time. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration and has some minor areas of light corrosion and dark patina. Markings are excellent and lock retains a spotted grey patina. Stock good with some scattered marks from use, some minor chips replaced along pommel cap, and a small piece at the back of the lockplate on the bottom edge. Stock has been refinished. Brass retains a mellowing patina. Cock does not hold on full cock. Bore is good. DMG
