This finely made "Jockstrap" interpretation of a California style "Slim Jim" pattern utilizing an extremely deep, double stitched facing collar to capture the body. Constructed of heavy russet skirting leather the right hand pouch has a low-cut, slightly re-curved throat and a rounded sewn-through toe. The facing leather with wrap around toe, pouch throat, and skirt edges are ornamented with tool stamping. A near identical example of this holster is listed and described on page 123 in the book "PACKING IRON by Richard Rattenbury and is fitted for a 4 3/4 inch Colt Single Action.Holster is further listed in the book "OLD COWBOY SADDLES AND SPURS" as having been operating out of Llano Texas at the turn of the century. Early 20th Century "Jock Strap" style holster with maker stamp H.A. Holtzer Llano, Tex. Made to fit a 7-1/2 inch Colt Model 1851 Navy percussion revolver or conversion. Provenance Max Guenthert collection CONDITION: Very good overall with a slight split at the throat and skirt. All stitching is tight. A rare and fine Texas marked holster. -MKS-
