This unique printing plate is from Colt Patent Firearms and was used to produce the paper cartridge package for the Pocket Model Colt revolvers with Hazard's powder.Wonderfully marked "FOR THE COLT NEW MODEL POCKET CARTRIDGES" indicating this was intended for the Model 1855 Root as well as other pocket models as opposed to the earlier printing intended for the Model 1848 models. Hand engraved in reverse for ink printing on bronze base metal and mounted on a walnut fixture or base.Provenance, Max Guenthert collection CONDITION: Very fine with traces of ink remaining in background. Bronze printing plate is very fine with no distress and walnut base is excellent as well. TDW
