Only 1150 of these scarce martial pistols were made from 1813 to 1815. Though the original order called for 20,000, the large caliber and punishing recoil caused the order to be revised. The 1813 is also the first contract in which a gunmaker agreed to provide parts interchangeability. Considering that at least half were converted to percussion, this leaves fewer than 600 original flint 1813's for collectors. CONDITION: The barrel with spotty brown patina, stamped "HHP" on right side of breech and "P" over "US" on left. The lock is in its original flintlock configuration and has deep even age brown and no significant pitting, and is stamped S. NORTH MIDLN CONN. Iron mounts are good, possibly retaining traces of original lacquer brown. Barrel band spotted en suite with barrel. Stock has very little wear and only minor marks. Stock appears to retain some original raised grain. One side nail sheared. Good inspector's cartouche "V / HHP" for Henry H. Perkin, matching "HHP" on barrel. Action is excellent. Bore is excellent. Oak ramrod with slotted tip is possibly the original. Altogether an unusually good example of this most desirable primary U.S. martial pistol. DG
