Discussed in length by John Kopec, these Colt Cavalry model were purchased back by Colt from the US Government and later sold commercially. Exhibiting all the proper Henry Nettleton inspections on frame, barrel, hammer, trigger guard back strap, cylinder and grips as well as having all matching numbers. Single line barrel address three line patent address, bullseye ejector and what appears to be all original screws. These guns are also found in a very distinctive serial range from 47339 to 50433 as have been observed and authenticated by Kopec. This example fall into this range and has all the proper markings and is NOT marked 45cal, on left side of trigger guard. Grips are wonderfully inspected with vivid 1878 date and clear cartouches on both sides as well as HN on butt. CONDITION: Nickel finish is mostly gone from use but gun remains in very good condition and appears untouched. Generous amount of nickel finish remains in protected areas around ejector rod housing and in cylinder flutes. Bore is very good with minor frosting in grooves. Action is crisp and function properly. These unique single actions are rarely found in correct and authentic configuration. This example has had no modifications just honest use and and careful preservation to have survived all this time.
