Originally produced in 1912 this Colt Single Action has been transformed into a piece of mechanical art by Master Engraver Tim George of Virginia. Formerly engraving for Colt and Old Dominion Engravers, Mr. George is known as one of America's foremost and most talented firearms artists. Colt Single Action Army is chambered for .45 Colt with 5 - 1/2" barrel and is fitted with superb one piece ivory grips. Engraved in excess of what would be known as style "D" from the Colt factory and inlaid profusely with gold wire and raised gold inlays on recoil shields and backstraps. Engraved in wide scrolls and vines with fine dot punch background on frame barrel and ejector rod with further scroll and vine on back strap and trigger guard. Fine cross hatch checkering is engraved on frame forward of cylinder with matching checkering at top of backstrap to rear of recoil shield. Dual gold bands are inlaid on barrel at muzzle and breech. Further gold inlay is sculptured around the caliber designation on left side of barrel. A broad and impressive gold border inlay is done in complete circumference of the frame on both sides and continuing to the top, rare and surrounding the sight groove. The hammer is embellished in the same fashion of engraving and gold wire inlay. A fantastic gold overlay of the Colt crest and shield in masterfully applied to the left recoil shield and is minutely dot punched on the interior. A small gold inlaid Rampant Colt is inlaid on the left side of frame at bottom to rear of patent dates. The loading gate is embellished with the famous Colt Factory Dome with minute Rampant Colt on top of the spire. Further gold inlays are done at the back strap of the Rampant Colt with a dual gold band/border. The hundreds of hours of master craftsmanship to complete this gun is unknown. The artistry is unsurpassed and this museum quality work would be the centerpiece of any collection be it firearms or paintings or sculpture. Truly magnificent. TDW
