This exact gun is pictured in Frank Sellers book entitled Sharps Firearms on page 156 where he states "Model 4D, no serial number. This pistol was supposedly the personal property of Christian Sharps but the documentation is a little sketchy". The caliber is .32 short and is considered the rarest of all the Sharps four barrel pistols. The barrel, at 3 1/2", is also the longest of any model made. CONDITION: There is about 50% original high polish blue on left side of barrels but devoid of finish on the right side with some pitting as it obviously spent most of its life stored with right side down. The grips are a fine pair of double sided eagle head carved ivories. Frame has no original finish visible. Sellers estimates that only 25 of this model were ever made so the survival rate of this rare model is low and as such they almost never seen. It would be a great find simply as a very rare Sharps pistol with attribution to the original inventor. DB
