Between 1915-1919, Colt shipped 13,300 commercial Model 1911 semi-automatics to the London armory. This run of guns, all with the W prefix, were made for the .455 Auto round and are so stamped on the right side of slide. All were commercial models that will wear a variety of British proofs on both the frame and slide. The most interesting aspect of these guns is the RAF Royal Air Force stamp. This marking indicates that this weapon, shipped in 1918, was intended to arm the Air Corp pilots of the time. All parts are correct with exception of replaced barrel. Magazine has original lanyard and a serial number, stamped .455 with proofs. Gun has full smooth trigger, type II rear sight with beveled edges and u notch. Diamond checkered walnut grips. Flat main spring housing with loop. Checkered wide spur hammer. Left side of frame stamped RAF.accompanied by US Capture paper dated Jun 25 1945 stating that this pistol by serial number was captured from the enemy by the Commander of the 114th Infantry. CONDITION: 75-85% original Colt factory blue with usual high edge wear and storage marks. Fine grips. Comes with an original pack of sealed 1919 dated ammunition. DB
