(1917) What at first glance appears to be a standard "GHE" with 28" barrels, non-automatic safety, double triggers, and capped pistol grip stock; a closer look reveals augmentation of standard engraving pattern with an additional 50 - 60% coverage of a floral motif with leaves and tendrils filling most areas not taken up by standard engraving. This gun, in "as found" condition appears to have a high percentage of original finish, and this extra engraving is under the finish on action. This floral treatment extends onto the barrels with 2 - 1/2" triangles at breech ends and added sprays at tops and bottoms of muzzles. It also appears on top lever, top tang of action, and on trigger guard. To add to the mystery a Remington repair code of March 1949 is on barrel flats. Stock finish appears original, but is possibly redone a while ago as checkering is a bit worn. A Parker letter might shed some light, although this serial number is not listed in ledger. Otherwise, the standard "G" engraving consists of pairs of birds on sides, as well as pheasant on trigger plate. Buttstock is of nicely figured American walnut and measures 14 - 3 /16" over Parker dogs head buttplate with spur. Silver shield on bottom is engraved "H W S". Matching splinter ejector forend has typical release and patent date on iron. CONDITION: As stated above, barrels appear to have most of an old re-black. Action has 70-80% color, and stocks have most of their finish. Bores are fine, frosted, and also dirty. Action is tight. Ejectors are in time. MGM68.
