American Ordnance Company manufacturer marking on top of breech with number “120”. This 2 pounder cannon has been converted to center fire and sits on an absolutely fantastic condition original American Ordnance steel carriage with bronze furnishings, complete with American Ordnance data plate at front. Tube measures just over 46” long muzzle to breech. Muzzle to end of trail is 76”. Beautiful wood spoke wheels with brass hubs and steel tires were manufactured by Archibald Wheel Company and are 38” high. Width hub to hub is also 38”. Muzzle exhibits 1897 date. Correct sights are present and are in excellent condition. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent correct rich brown refinish over light pitting on tube. Carriage is near excellent olive green painted finish on steel parts with some small chips and scratches revealing gray patina, with bronze and brass parts left bare. Attractive oak wooden spoke wheels are also near excellent with black painted steel tires with typical loss of paint from use turning a brown patina on contact surfaces. Mechanics are crisp. Bore has very strong rifling with shiny lands and starting to turn dark in the grooves. Breech block is appropriately in the white and in near excellent condition just starting to patina. Truly an exceptionally attractive and not too difficult to move around 19th century cannon. A museum quality specimen in all respects. JWK 2019-10-217
