(1964) Standard configuration carbine has 20" barrel, Monte Carlo stock with swept cheekpiece, full length stock with metal cap, double set triggers, and white line accents to grip cap and buttplate. Because of extensive engraving no "Mannlicher Schoenauer" markings are present, only serial number, proofs, caliber, "Antinit", "Steyr - Daimler - Puch A. G., Steyr" on left side of action, as well as Steyr logo and Stoeger Arms and "MADE IN AUSTRIA" at bottom of floorplate. Barrel is engraved for nearly its entire length with well cut shaded scroll. Action is deep relief engraved in oak leaf and acorn pattern surrounding relief gold inlaid head of a chamois in alpine setting on top of receiver ring. Swept bolt handle is full relief engraved with oak leaves and acorns. Floorplate has full relief gold inlaid big horn ram central to relief engraved background of trees and mountains. Trigger guard bow has oval vignette of relief gold roebuck in engraved forest setting. More acorns and oak leaves are on tang. Stock of dense and lightly figured flesh toned European walnut has relief carved panels of oak leaves and acorns taking up most of the space not occupied by standard point pattern checkering or cheekpiece. Right side of butt has central oval vignette of semi-relief carved stag jumping over falling log in mountainous setting. This scene is also flanked by more oak leaves and acorns giving near full coverage. Sling loops are gold plated and top of grip cap is set with silver oval engraved with monogram "L D M" (?). Weight: 7 lbs 4 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, very close to new with little evidence of having been fired since proof, with only a few minor marks in all original finishes, and some staining on triggers. A very rare Mannlicher. The original owner of this rifle could possibly be further researched though at the time of cataloging, we have not been able to determine who the rifle was ordered by or made for. It was obviously made for someone of great significance and means! In 1964 the special order extras for this carbine totaled over $1000 added to the base price of $195. MGM69.
