Deluxe engraved in classic Gustave Young style featuring Germanic scrolls on a punch dot background. Gothic dog motif on left barrel lug and wolf head motif on hammer. Hand engraved "Colt's Patent" on left side of frame. Backstrap inscribed "H.B. Allen". Engraving on loading lever, barrel, trigger guard, backstrap, and wedge. 7 - 1/2" octagon barrel with one-line "Address SAML COLT HARTFORD CT." Matching serial number 91918 on all major components including wedge. Manufactured in 1859. One piece ivory grips. Blue with case hardened frame, loading lever, and hammer. Silver plated brass trigger guard and backstrap. Fitted in walnut case in partition style with correct "Colt Patent" bullet mold, Eagle powder flask, packet of 6 combustible cartridges, and Eley Bros. percussion cap tin. CONDITION: 35-40% original blue turning a pleasing brown patina on barrel. Loading lever, frame, and hammer mostly a gunmetal grey patina. Engraving is sharp and crisp. All original screws mostly unmolested. Cylinder shows 70-80% roll die scene with an overall dove grey patina. Action locks up well and is crisp. One piece ivory grips are excellent with sharp checkering at butt and small chips on the toe at each side. Grips fit well with minimum shrinkage. Overall a very attractive and desirable early Model 1851 Navy. -MKS-
