Replaced wedge marked "480". 7 - 1/2" octagon barrel marked in one line "ADDRESS SAM'L COLT HARTFORD CT." Blue with case hardened frame, hammer, and loading lever. Silver plated brass trigger guard and backstrap. One piece ivory grips. Engraved in classic Gustave Young style featuring Germanic scrolls on a punch dot background. Trademark wolf head motif on hammer with Gothic style dog head on left barrel lug. Scroll engraving on loading lever, barrel lug, frame, hammer, trigger guard, and backstrap. "Colt's Patent" hand engraved on left side of frame. Backstrap inscribed "LIEUT. H. STEYER". Includes a Civil War period civilian holster and military issue belt with officer's brass buckle. CONDITION: Good overall. No original finish remaining other than approximately 15% silver plating on trigger guard, and backstrap. Overall a dove grey patina. Cylinder shows moderate to heavy use with multiple dents, very little roll die naval battle scene visible, fairly heavy pitting around nipples. Moderate pitting in bore. Ivory grips are very good with one age crack on right side and as typically seen around the butt at bottom, overall very sound with minimum shrinkage. Barrel has few dents and scratches. Belt and holster leather is fine with little crazing and is pliable. Buckle is fine with traces of original gold wash. Overall a very colorful Civil War inscribed Colt Model 1851 Navy that probably saw action in the war. -MKS- CORRECTION: Photos updated.
