This excellent pair of Deringers' smallest pistols is a true pair, as both guns are virtually identical in engraving, mounts, and size. The diminutive octagonal to round barrels with German silver foresights and silver bands at breech, breech deeply struck "DERINGER PHILADELA". Left side of breech with characteristic sunburst and letter "P". Locks with sparse Derringer engraving, deeply struck "DERINGER PHILADELA". Hammer sparsely engraved with florals in classic Deringer style. Checkered hammer spurs, barrels are held with wedges affixed through German silver pineapple escutcheons, shield-shaped German silver thumb pieces, German silver trigger guards and butt decorations, walnut full stocks finely checkered at butt. CONDITION: Condition of pistols is virtually identical. Barrels with typical Deringer lightning-strike brown, breeches are darkened with phenomenal markings and untouched silver bands. Locks with phenomenal engraving showing no wear, hammers extremely crisp, German silver furniture showing little if any wear, walnut stocks retaining all of their original varnish, both pistols with minor tight crack at lock screw escutcheon. One pistol with extremely minor wear to high point checkering. Rifled bores rate fine. Actions are crisp as new with very tight springs. These lovely little pistols are cased in an oak, green-base lined fitted case with a very fine red leather cover flask in pristine condition throughout. This set would be very difficult to improve upon and these tiny Deringers are rarely encountered. MZ
